Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship   

The Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship is supported by the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) Foundation and awards an outstanding student who plans to enter a university and pursue an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering.The recipient will receive USD 5,000 per year for up to four years of university study.

SPE is a not-for-profit professional association whose members are engaged in energy resources development and production. SPE is a key resource for technical knowledge related to the oil and gas exploration and production industry, and provides services through publications, events, training courses and online resources at Income from SPE events and services are invested back into SPE to support many other society programs.
The scholarship is provided for undergraduate students who enrolls one of SPE student chapters.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Must intend to enroll in petroleum engineering in a recognized university program according to your country or region, leading to an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering
  • Must become an SPE member once eligible
  • Must have joined faculty of Petroleum engineering after Jan 2017
  • You must either still be enrolled in 2019, OR be enrolled in university by 1 January, 2019.

Opportunity Cost


The scholarship covers:

USD 5,000 per year, up to 4 years, but the funding must be used for educational purposes such as tuition, books, living expenses, etc.

How to Apply

First Step: Sign Up on SPE Website

Second Step: You will need:

  • Transcript of university grades.
  • Entrance Exam Prior to University acceptance ACT, SAT, GRE, IIT JEE (India), Thanawya Ama (Egypt), or common aptitude test prior to university acceptance.
  • Records of Extracurricular activities you  have enrolled in.
  • Personal statement

Third Step:

  • Click save then return to the menu
  • Select Add recommendation request, add the email and phone number of one or two of your professors.

The Submit button will appear after at least one of the recommendation letters is submitted.
