University of Canterbury- CWF Hamilton and Co Ltd Master’s Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering.

This scholarship supports study towards a Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury. It was established in 2000 by a gift from  CWF Hamilton & Co Ltd.

The University of Canterbury is offering Master’s scholarships in Mechanical Engineering for 2019-2020, The scholarship is awarded by the Council of the University, on the recommendation of a selection committee that comprises:
a. The Vice-Chancellor (or nominee).
b. A representative of CWF Hamilton & Co Ltd.
c. The Dean of Engineering (or nominee).
d. The Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (or nominee).

The  CWF Hamilton & Co Ltd, was formed in 1939 and has recently celebrated its 75th year Anniversary and is looking towards strong growth in the future.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • By 10 December in the year of application for the scholarship, applicants must have met the academic requirements for enrollment in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • The scholarship is tenable for an enrollment of up to 120 points, by full-time and part-time students who are enrolled in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University.
  • Every recipient not already enrolled in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering should normally be enrolled in that program by 31 March in the year following the year of application.
  • A recipient who is unable to enroll by that deadline must seek permission from the Dean of Engineering to take up the scholarship at a later date. Without this permission the award will be terminated.
  •   The scholarship must be taken up in the year following the year of application. In no case will tenure commence, or be backdated to an enrollment date, prior to 1 January of the year following the year of application.
  • In making its recommendation the committee will consider: Academic achievement; and  potential to contribute to research in Mechanical Engineering.
  • If in any year, there is no applicant of sufficient merit, no award will be made.
  • In the event of a recipient’s withdrawal from enrollment in a program for an ME degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University during the term of the scholarship, the scholarship will be withdrawn, and any paid funds may be recovered.
