The main issue is to identify a possible chemical solution or process for alternative pretreatment for metals surfaces for steel, galvanized steel, and aluminum prior to coatings.
The goal of Alternative Sustainable Pretreatment for Metals challenge is to identify alternative methods of pretreatment to protect metal (ferrous and non-ferrous) against corrosion and provide an excellent primer for painting. The seeker is interested in new chemical solutions as well as new processes/methods that can be applied in an industrial environment.
Minimum solution requirements
The solutions are not allowed to induce a color change for the following paints and top coatings.-
No intense smell in the dry state.-
The solution does not rely on raw materials and processes that are excessively expensive or require very expensive specialized -infrastructures.
All solutions that contain toxic substances or high amounts of volatile organic components are not considered.-
The solution must provide a reasonable adhesion for the top coatings (powder and wet paints and electrophoretic coatings). All solutions -that induce a nonstick surface (e. g. silicones) are excluded.
