Peter Rankin Trust Fund for Herpetology

The Peter Rankin Trust Fund for Herpetology is an Australia-wide fund which seeks to provide small grants-in-aid to herpetological projects. The Fund was established in 1979 to commemorate the memory of Peter Rankin, a young herpetologist who died accidentally while collecting in New Caledonia shortly after having graduated from university.

The Fund makes awards annually to a total of approximately $3,000 ($1,000 per award) to a budding herpetological researcher. Contributions to the invested capital of the Fund are continually being sought by the Committee overseeing the Fund. Contributions are tax deductable. Students and researchers without an ABN must ensure that their institution are able to administer the money received from the Fund – see terms and conditions of award.

N.B:Fellowships that are awarded in the 2020/21 round (for visits to the AM between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021) may be deferred if the scheduled visit is disrupted due to COVID-19.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Any publication arising from work supported by an AM Fellowship or Award should include an
    acknowledgement to that effect within the publication. One copy of any such publication to be
    forwarded to the Australian Museum Research Institute (AMRI) and External Partnerships
    Coordinator, Meagan Warwick at
  • Where applicants are employed by an institution or are a student at a university, they must
    provide a Letter/Statement of support from a senior employee at their place of employment or
    study (such as a supervisor) that includes an acknowledgement of whether the institution or the
    individual (successful applicant) will administer the funds.

  • To submit a brief report within one month of the completion date;
