Ryerson University is at the intersection of mind and action. What its students learn in the classroom is enhanced by real-world knowledge and experience. It champion diversity, entrepreneurship and innovation.
The Ryerson Institute of Technology was established in 1948 in response to the need for skilled tradespeople following the Second World War. Built on the historical site of Ontario’s first teacher training college — known as the Toronto Normal School — approximately 250 students enrolled in Ryerson’s first year. The new institute offered theoretical and practical training in various skilled trades such as architecture, costume design and photography.
The Ryerson International Student Scholarship (RISS) was created to support a limited number of international students enrolled in doctoral engineering programs. A RISS can be held in conjunction with an RGF, GDA and any other source of funds except those that defray the cost of international student tuition fees.
