Description

SSP Application Guidelines for Prospective Students

The Special Scholarship Program (SSP) was established in 2003 in order to support the development of advanced research at the university through the contribution of highly capable doctoral students.
Through the 3-year curriculum, Kochi University of Technology (KUT) provides comprehensive education in the multidisciplinary environment. Every year, KUT enrolls approximately 15 selected doctoral students to work in specific research projects. This program is for those who have strong intention to engage in his/her research projects for the whole three years acquiring profound knowledge and skill and ability to become a full-fledged researcher, and aspire to satisfy the degree requirements accordingly.

  • To have an excellent academic record and strong bachelor's and master's degrees from reputable universities.

Benefits

  • Flight
  • 150,000 yen is provided for travel. (given only to international applicants who are living outside Japan, and who have, or have the intention to acquire, "Student" status of Japanese residence at the time of entry into Japan)
  • Salary
  • To support living expenses, 150,000 yen/month is paid as salary for research project work. *You must pay some amount of taxes from this salary.
  • Cover Tuition Fees
  • Exemption from 30,000 yen entrance examination fee, 300,000 yen enrollment fee and 535,800 yen/year tuition fee.
  • Accommodation & Meals
  • 150,000 yen is provided for travel and initial living costs. If you wish to bring your family members and live with them in Japan, or if you wish to change your accommodation, you must initiate your own apartment rental. In any case, you need to bear your own costs. (given only to international applicants who are living outside Japan, and who have, or have the intention to acquire, "Student" status of Japanese residence at the time of entry into Japan)

  • Name of English Exam such as TOEFL, IELTS, CET.

  • Write a summary of your master’s thesis below. If you are still working towards your master’s degree, provide a written description of the content of your master’s thesis and of the progress of the research at this point. List of publications (Provide the titles of books or papers, including graduation theses, with the publisher's name and date of publication. Write a summary, if possible.)
  • Master Degree Certificate
  • If you are still working towards your master's degree, a verified original master's degree certificate in English /Japanese from your university will be required before your enrollment can be completed. If you are not able to produce such a document, you will not be enrolled.
  • Research proposal
  • Find a research project which you wish to join and confrim its availability. Then send a completed Online Pre-Application Request to the leader of your preferred project via the Online Pre-Application Form.
  • Portfolio
  • List of publications (Provide the titles of books or papers, including graduation theses, with the publisher's name and date of publication. Write a summary, if possible.)
  • Study Plan
  • Write a brief research plan based on your preferred CSC-KUT project.
  • Statement of intent
  • write your plan after completing the doctoral program at KUT.
