The Egyptian Innovation Award for Social Entrepreneurship

Nawah is an annual competition that empowers entrepreneurs in Egypt by offering an opportunity for entrepreneurs to compete in a country-wide challenge, to show-case their business ideas and startups. Nawah’s objective is to contribute to a flourishing, collaborative and conscious entrepreneurship ecosystem by empowering young entrepreneurs, to develop their skills, capabilities and expand their network and resources. Nawah chooses ideas and startups based on sustainability, social problem solving ability (impact) and innovation.

Nawah Competition is entering its fourth year of implementation. After three consecutive years, in which the project substantially grew in both size and scope, it became one of the main social entrepreneurship events in Egypt that contributes to the development of entrepreneurial business ecosystem.

Finalists will be invited to the Egypt Entrepreneurship Summit to meet representatives from the entire entrepreneurial ecosystem (government, business, investors, start-ups, civil society and education organizations), and winners can receive tailored training, mentoring opportunities and win equity free financial prizes.

Program Period

from 23 October till 23 November(1 month).

The deadline for submission of the competition is on October 23rd, the semi-finals will take place during the first few days of November. The finalists will receive a training period during the first half of November while the finals day will be on the last day of the Egypt Entrepreneurship Summit on November 23 in Alexandria.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Nawah is looking for innovative entrepreneurs who can explain their ideas/startups clearly and have examples of achievements they’ve already made.
  • Contestants can be students/university graduates whose ages are from 18 to 35 from all governorates of Egypt.
  • Nawah is looking for entrepreneurs who’re interested in developing their country’s economy by creating startups and developing innovative ideas.

Total of 450k LE Free-equity Prizes Money

Nawah provides free-equity prizes to help entrepreneurs with ideas to start their own startups and help entrepreneurs with startups to grow their established ones. Nawah’s financial prizes are up to 450,000 Egyptian pounds.

  • The first place winner in startups’ track wins 250,000 Egyptian Pounds.
  • The first-place winner in the ideas’ track wins 100,000 Egyptians Pounds.
  • The first-place winner in the vocational track wins 50,000 Egyptian Pounds.
  • the second-place winner in the vocational track wins 30,000 Egyptian Pounds.
  • the third-place winner wins 20,000 Egyptian Pounds.

How to Apply

First Step:

Application phase: applicants will be required to make video submissions that outline their proposals in addition to filling in a detailed application explaining their ideas/startups business model.

Second Step:

The semi- final phase:The qualified ideas/startups will be assessed by panel of competition judges comprising of experts from different fields. Each team will get three minutes to pitch their idea/startup followed by three minutes Q&As from the judging panel. Semi-finalists are filtered to qualify only 15 ideas/startups from each track to continue to the final round.

Third Step:

Training and final phase:Qualified ideas/startups join a Bootcamp that last 5 days for startups track and 7 days for ideation and vocational tracks. Finalists are invited to attend Egypt Entrepreneurship Summit in Alexandria from the 21st to the 23rd of November to meet businessmen, investors and organizations from the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Egypt. After the bootcamp, finalists give their final pitching during the finals day which is the last day of Egypt Entrepreneurship Summit.
