Mesahat program for Young People is a research program, specifically “Participatory Research Aimed at Community Action.”
The program is divided into two parts: the research part, and the action part.
The group of participants of young men and women will research together with a social issue that disturbs them and affects their lives, and in this case, the topic we chose is Education.
The young people will be conducting a research process with the larger community in an organized and collective manner about the meaning of young people’s experiences in high school, their perception of their future, and the options available through the school and its set pathway for the university. Young people will collect stories and experiences around all the factors that affect their decisions and their choices for their future: whether it is the family, school, society, and others whose ideas and perceptions affect young people at a very crucial moment in their life, and how much agency do a young person really have in determining their own fate, and what are the options available to them to play a greater role in their own life?
– ** The research part **: The research will be participatory, meaning that the team will do everything in a participatory and democratic manner. They will decide the topic of research together, and they will research where, with whom, and how. Research methods will have a lot of creativity, including workshops, photography, artworks, walking tours, and visits to different places such as institutions working in the field of education or interviewing different individuals in the field of education and other interests of the participants that help in answering the research questions.
– The program will be with the participation of all the participants, meaning that there are no pre-prepared activities or curricula, but there is a topic for research within the field of education and our perceptions of the future, as was explained.
All participants will contribute and decide the form of the research trip, and the facilitators will accompany the participants in designing the different stages and appropriate activities based on the sessions and discussions that will take place and the needs and interests of the participants. This means that it is an opportunity to be part of a learning experience that you shape by yourself.
– ** The action part **: As a result of questioning, research, gathering data in creative ways, and understanding the causes of the problem that bother us in the context of our society, the young people together will design an act to develop a solution to the problem. In this case, we invite you to work together on designing, experimenting and implementing an alternative educational program that helps the youth to explore life opportunities greater than what the prescribed path provides for them. All questions, the research process, and the resulting actions are rooted in the commitment to creating environments in which social justice and greater fairness in education exist.
