DAAD Surplace Scholarship 2020/2021

A limited number of SUR-PLACE scholarships by the DAAD is available for applicants and matriculated students seeking to earn a Master’s degree in Water Engineering, Energy Engineering and Urban Development at TU Berlin Campus El Gouna.

This scholarship is open to Egyptian students only. Students must have An academic background in the form of a relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is an obligatory requirement for all Master’s programs at TU Berlin Campus El Gouna.

Program Period

Two years.

The Master’s degree programs at TU Berlin Campus El Gouna take two years, consisting of four semesters. The first three semesters are devoted to academic course work, while the fourth semester is reserved for the compilation of the Master’s thesis.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • This scholarship is open only to applicants who have received a letter of acceptance (LoA) from a master’s program at Campus El Gouna and are willing to start in winter semester 2020 or are matriculated students of higher semesters.   • To be an Egyptian national residing in Egypt (Preference will not be given to dual nationality holders).
  • English language proficiency is required (Valid TOEFL IBT or IELTS exam scores with a minimum of 87 for TOEFL IBT and 6.0 for IELTS).
  • Involvement with activities in civic, public or international affairs.
  • Return to Egypt for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.

TUBCG’s Entry Requirements:

  • An academic background in the form of a relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is an obligatory requirement for all Master’s programs at TU Berlin Campus El Gouna.
  • As professional experience is considered to be a valuable asset for the course profile, practical work experience in a subject related field is mandatory as well.
  • Additional qualifications, such as social commitment, publications, participation in extra-curricular academic events, language abilities, and IT skills will also be taken into consideration.
For Energy Engineering (EE):
  • Qualification in energy/power engineering and chemical engineering, followed by mechanical and industrial engineering as well as electrical and environmental engineering.
  • The candidates should have a basic knowledge in thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer and fluid dynamics.

For Urban Development (UD):

  • Qualification in a city related discipline is required: Architecture, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Geography, Urban Design, or Landscape Planning.
  • Candidates with a background in Civil Engineering, Law, Political Science, Business, Administration, Sociology, or Economics are also encouraged to apply.

For Water Engineering (WE):

  • Qualification in water related engineering or a natural science is required: Environmental, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical or Process Engineering, Biology, Geosciences, Chemistry, or similar.

Opportunity Cost

(Partially Funded)

The scholarship is available for students from all five master programs and includes:

  • a grant of 2500 EUR for tuition fees.
  • a monthly allowance of 500 EUR from Oct. 1, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2021.

Please be aware that the scholarship does not cover the full tuition fees, applicants are expected to pay the remainder themselves!

Note: It is not necessary to submit further documents as you have submitted those with your application to Campus El Gouna already.

Third Step: A selection committee composed of a member of TU Berlin Campus El Gouna and a representative from DAAD decides on the beneficiaries. Results will be announced by 30th June 2020.

Please be informed: your document has to be sent as pdf-file in one email, as an attachment – other forms of submission (link or as .rar) will not be accepted. All documents have been submitted translated in English or German. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

– As with all applications to Campus El Gouna, please make sure that you are able to travel to both Egypt and Germany during the course of studies.
