The University of Waikato is a consistent climber in the most prestigious international ranking. Due to their believe in rewarding success, which is why they offer hundreds of scholarships every year to our students to help fund study and study-related expenses.

To support excellence in postgraduate research, up to 75 University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarships will be awarded each year to high-achieving candidates applying for admission to an approved doctoral qualification at the University of Waikato.

- Candidates will normally be seeking to obtain their first doctoral qualification.
- A qualification considered equivalent to a New Zealand bachelors degree with honours or masters degree with at least second class honours.
- International English language entry requirement IELTS: 6.5 overall (with no less than 6.0 in any band)iBT (internet based TOEFL): 90 with a score of 21 in writingPearson PTE Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills below 50

The value of the Scholarship covers:
- A living allowance of $25,000 in total every 12 months, payable in monthly.
- The domestic tuition fees for enrolment in the doctoral qualification during the term of the Scholarship
- The Student Services Levy.
Note: Any additional costs such as medical insurance, moving costs, and research expenses must be met by the student.

It is only possible to apply for a UoW Doctoral Scholarship as part of the application to enroll process. That is why the ‘Apply Now’ button on the Scholarships page takes you to the University’s application to enroll page. When applying to enroll in a PhD, DMA, EdD, or SJD, prospective students will be able to indicate that they wish to also be considered for a UoW Doctoral Scholarship.

Second Step: choose the course and the period you want to enter.
Third Step: complete your application and submit it.
Note: Due to the large volume of applications received from African countries they are currently only allowing direct applications from South Africa, Mauritius, Morocco,Tunisia and Egypt. Students from African countries that are excluded from this list are kindly requested to apply through an authorised agent in your region. If there is not an agent in your region, please submit this webform for assistance.
