Georgetown University is a private research university in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Founded in 1789 as Georgetown College, the university has grown to comprise nine undergraduate and graduate schools, among which are the School of Foreign Service, School of Business, Medical School, and Law School.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Newly admitted or continuing undergraduate and graduate students in good standing at Georgetown.
  • Undergraduate and graduate students in good standing at other colleges and universities, with the submission of application. Good standing is defined as having a 2.00 minimum GPA (“C” average) at the undergraduate level or a 3.00 GPA (“B” average) at the graduate level.
  • High school students, recommended by their principals or guidance counselors, who will have completed at least their freshman year with a “B” average or better at the time of enrollment, and whose high school program applications are approved by the associate dean of Georgetown Summer Sessions.
  • International students who can provide evidence of a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test), 225 (computer-based test), 90 (iBT), or a minimum IELTS score of 7.0. English can only be considered the native language if it is the only official language of the applicant’s home country and the primary language spoken in the applicant’s home.   • Individuals whose educational background and experience qualify them for the courses they wish to take, with the submission of an enrollment form and official transcript(s).

The general Tuition Fees are:

  • Undergraduate Students : $1,496 per credit
  • Graduate Students : $2,065 per credit

Visiting students who are not attending via the Consortium or the Honors Institute can apply for limited scholarship assistance directly from the Georgetown Summer Sessions.

Partial tuition scholarships are available in limited numbers and do not provide for fees, travel, room and board, or study abroad.

How to Apply

First Step: Before you enroll, browse the online schedule of classes to determine which classes best fit your interests and needs. 

Second Step: In order to enroll, you must complete the enrollment form. Once you are enrolled, you will receive an enrollment letter via email that will contain directions for obtaining your NetID and password. You will receive a separate email with instructions on how to register for classes online through MyAccess. See Registration Process for more information.

Third Step: If your native language is not English, you will be required to provide either a TOEFL or IELTS score report as part of the enrollment form. We require a minimum score on the TOEFL test in the range of 550–600 (paper-based test), 225–250 (computer-based test), or 90–100 (iBT)to be considered for admission. The minimum score range on the IELTS test is 7.0–8.0 to be considered for admission. Visit our English Language Exams page for more information.

Fourth Step: Apply for an immigration document should you require a student visa to the United States. Georgetown highly encourages summer students to apply for F-1 visas for participation in all academic sessions over the summer.

Fifth Step: Register for your classes. Follow the registration instructions provided in your Welcome Packet and on our Visiting Students Registration Process page.

Sixth Step: Interested students can download the Partial Tuition Scholarship Application* or request one from the Summer Sessions Scholarship Committee, at Georgetown University.

Seventh Step: Pay your bill prior to the start of classes. Tuition is charged on a per-credit basis. You may visit the Tuition and Fees page to calculate how much your summer studies will cost. You may also visit the Office of Billing and Payment Services website for information on payment options.

Eighth Step: Apply for housing. If you plan to live on campus, in Georgetown’s residence halls, you need to apply for housing. You can view housing rates and apply directly through the On-Campus Housing Office.

Ninth Step: Purchase a meal plan. We offer flexible and convenient meal plan options for dining on campus. You can purchase a meal plan through Dining Services.
