Master’s scholarship in International Multimedia Journalism in Bolton University 2019

The University of Bolton is delighted to offer two 50% Tuition Waiver Scholarships for the full-time MA in International Multimedia Journalism for the 2019/20 academic year.

The programme develops practical skills and critical thinking for journalists and storytellers to deliver both short-form and long-form journalism on digital platforms. The course is based in Beijing and is a collaboration between the Beijing Foreign Studies University and the University of Bolton in the UK, with the degree awarded by the University of Bolton.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • A strong portfolio commitment to the area of study are often of greater value than educational background.
  • If you do not have relevant education qualifications but you do have significant experience in the field of journalism or communications, and you are able to present a strong portfolio as part of your application, you will be a strong candidate.
  • You need to have at least an upper second class honors degree (2.1) in a relevant subject; or at least an upper second class honors degree in any subject and significant professional experience in the industry; or at least an upper second class honors degree in a related subject with a major project in a relevant subject.
  • If English is not your first language you will also need IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent). If you do not have an IELTS we may be able to provide you with a local equivalent test.

Opportunity Cost

(Partially Funded)

  • The scholarship covers 50% of of the full £7,500 tuition fee waiver. Recipients pay £3,750.
  • Please note all other costs including accommodation, visas, living expenses and flights to and from Beijing, plus equipment is not included in the scholarship and must be covered by students. Students must have their own basic equipment set-up on starting the course. This can be purchased for around £1,000 pounds.

First Step: Complete your application form.

Second Step: Fill out all sections including:

  1. A statement of motivation explaining how your academic background, work experience and/or extra-curricular activities relate to the IMMJ course, and what you expect to gain from studying (400 words maximum).
  2.  A plan outlining how you intend to use the knowledge and experience gained through the course to contribute towards the development of your career and profession. (400 words maximum).
  3.  A summary of your financial need, including details of any other sources of funding you expect to receive and any special circumstances affecting your need for financial assistance. (200 Words)
  4.  A link to a personal website/blog or an uploaded folder. The portfolio should include either one single media or a mix of photography, video, text articles, graphic design, coding, audio, etc.
