The Student Startup competition supports youth entrepreneurs, serving as a platform for high school students to showcase their business ideas. The competition provides students with a remarkable opportunity to showcase their talents, validate their business ideas, and gain experience.

- Students with a business idea are encouraged to apply during the application process July 1-November 8, 2019. Selected finalists will present their startup product to a panel of judges and a live audience at SXSW EDU, March 9-12, 2020.
- Additionally, finalists and attendees will have ample opportunities to connect through various social events during SXSW EDU

- You must be a currently enrolled high school student and 13 years or older in order to be considered.
- Both national and international applicants are eligible.
- Solo entrepreneurs and team applicants qualify.
- The competition is not limited to specific business categories and all types of startups are welcome.

- Once the review process is complete, a SXSW EDU team member will notify applicants their application status and provide further instructions via email by January 2021.
- All selected finalists will receive up to two gratis SXSW EDU registration badges for Student Startup presenters. Additional comped SXSW EDU badges will be available for adult sponsors and additional team members on a case-by-case basis.
- Each finalist will have an opportunity to rehearse and practice their pitch presentation on stage in a private session at SXSW EDU. During this private session, the Student Startup coaches will provide feedback and work closely with each finalist to help prepare for their pitch presentation for the live competition.
- Additional winner details will be shared as the 2020 event approaches.
- In 2019, the winning startup was recognized and celebrated at the conference-wide Student Startup Ice Cream Social. Additional winner details will be shared as the 2020 event approaches. Most importantly, the opportunity to receive invaluable exposure to the SXSW EDU community.
