CityU Entrance Scholarship

The City University of Hong Kong is offering applications for the Entrance Scholarship Scheme for foreign students with excellent academic performance.This is the merit base award open to supporting international students who are admitted or plan to admit to full-time government-funded bachelor’s degree programs in Hong kong.

Program Period

Three or four years.

  • Results of Application: December 2019 – June 2020
  • Application for Student Visa: May – June 2020
  • Enrolment Start Date for International Students: 24 August 2020
  • Semester A Start Date: 31 August 2020

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Applicants do not have to apply for these scholarships. The appropriate level of scholarship is awarded based on merit. Students receiving it are required to attain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.2 or above every year during the period study for renewing the scholarship.
  • Eligible Countries: Application from all nationalities are welcome
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The sponsorship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university
  • Admissible Criteria: Applicants must be admitted to a full-time government-funded bachelor’s degree program.
  • All non-local students admitted from underrepresented nationalities except Top Scholarship recipients will be eligible for the new grant.
  • Awardees will be required to engage in a volunteer activity to enhance internationalization of CityU annually. The grant will be paid in installments and automatically renewed each year.

Opportunity Cost

The Scheme offers three kinds of scholarships

  • Top Scholarships of HK$180,000 (approximately US$23,000), covering annual tuition fees, on-campus accommodation and living expenses
  • Full Tuition Scholarships, covering annual tuition fees (approximately US$18,000)
  • Half Tuition Scholarships, covering half of the annual tuition fees (approximately US$9,000).

Second Step: Complete your application, and Upload supporting documents:

  • Secondary education:
    – General Certificate of Education (GCE).
    – System International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
  • Overseas School Curriculum:
    – predicted national examination results from schools, if applicable.
    – latest official high school transcript with English translation.
    – An explanation of the transcript grading system.
  • other examination results, if available:
    – TOEFL/IELTS results or other acceptable English results.
  • Bachelor’s Degree/Associate Degree/Higher Diploma or equivalent qualifications:
    – latest official transcript (with results of all completed semesters/terms).
    – An explanation of the transcript grading system.
    – Award certificate and transcript showing the final CGPA/overall mark and award classification, with an explanation of the grading system, if study completed.
  • Achievements/awards in academic and non-academic activities at international/national level in the past three years, if applicable:
    – Award certificate.
    – Attendance certificate.

Third Step: Pay the application fee online using a credit card (Visa, MasterCard or UnionPay). The fee (HK$450 for a maximum of three programme choices for non-local applicants).

Fourth Step: After you get your acceptance letter, send your Documents for Verification.
