DocNomads is the first joint master in Europe in the field of FILM that was granted the right to use the Erasmus Mundus brand name and the grant support of the European Commission for the first five editions. This backing was granted again for the course editions in the period of 2017-2022.

Directing is essentially learned through making films out in the real world. Students are asked to confront the aesthetic and practical challenges generated by the actual process of filmmaking and in doing so develop their critical thinking skill; gain autonomy in multifarious disciplines; and build – throughout the course – their own repertoire of formal approaches.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • DOC NOMADS Erasmus Mundus Masters Course is aimed to students from all over the world with a Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Film Studies, in Arts or in Media Communication studies.
  • Other degrees (of at least EQF Level 6) may be accepted from applicants with a convincing artistic portfolio.
  • DocNomads provides the rare privilege of bringing together, for some time, a close community of people from diverse cultures and varied backgrounds, individual voices and particular visions.
  • We consider this aspect to be one of the best assets of the program, which certainly augments the unique experience of being part of it.
  • The Academic Board of DOC NOMADS is looking for students who are:

    DocNomads is quite an intensive study program, demanding many studies and many work hours, while constantly pushing students to face new experiences.

    Its challenging curriculum is aimed at students committed to taking advantage of the learning opportunities provided, in order to achieve and improve upon specialized skills, both in terms of theoretical knowledge of creative documentary and through practical training within this multifarious discipline.

Opportunity Cost

  • The tuition fee is EUR 9.000 /year i.e. EUR 18.000 for the whole master’s course. The tuition fee covers the cost of education; student certification fees; use of libraries and the Internet on educational premises. The fee also provides access to basic equipment, editing facilities, and post-production services. A small allowance in cash is given as a contribution for production expenses of each individual graduation film. The amount is announced annually by the Academic Board.
  • The tuition fees do not cover travel costs from the country of origin, travel costs required for the mobility(to Lisbon for the 1st semester, to Budapest for the 2nd semester, to Brussels for the 3rd and Lisbon or Budapest or Brussels for the 4th semester) travel documents (passport,!visas), accommodation and living expenses, or other costs (e.g. study books, stationery, photocopies, etc.).
  • This tuition fee is to be paid in three installments:
    EUR 1.000 within 3 weeks after the selection.
    EUR 8.000 by 30 June of the year of selection.
    EUR 9.000 by 30 June between the course’s first and second years.
    1. Any student who has payment in arrears to any of the three host academies is not entitled to begin the next semester until paid.
    2. Travel and travel costs between higher education institutions.
    The cost of travel between locations of study within Europe shall be covered by the students.

  • Authorized, stamped or certified copies of your previous Bachelor degree(s) translated to English by a sworn translator.
  • Certified copies of an English language certificate.
  • A link to the FILM made for the application (“I see, I hear, I film”).
  •  A link to the applicant’s previous/additional film.
  • One recent photo of yourself.
  •  Copy of passport or ID card (EU) with an expiration date.
  • A residence certificate issued within 12 months before the submission deadline of the application, in accordance with the candidate’s municipality normal registration rules or, a certificate from the candidate’s place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question.
