Erasmus Mundus European Master in Tourism Management (EMTM) 2020/2022

The European Master in Tourism Management (EMTM) is a two-year world-class integrated programme aimed at qualifying graduates to deal with the huge challenges in contemporary tourism. The EMTM has been selected as Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) by the European Commission.

The EMTM Consortium consists of three leading European universities with excellence in the teaching of tourism-related subjects: University of Girona (Girona, Spain), University of Southern Denmark (Kolding, Denmark) and School of Economics and Business of University of Ljubljana (Ljubljana, Slovenia). Furthermore, some of the associated partner universities of the programme include The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Sun Yat-sen University (China), University of Seychelles, Arizona State University (United States), Voronezh State University (Russian Federation), Thompson Rivers University (Canada) and University of São Paolo (Brazil) among others.

  • The maximum number of EMJMD Partner Country scholarships available for course 2020-2022 will be 14 scholarships.
  • The maximum number of EMJMD Programme Country scholarships available for course 2020-2022 will be 2 scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Completed university bachelor’s or master’s degree/s (=180 ECTS credit points or more) in the field of: tourism, economics, business administration, geography or other related fields in the social sciences or humanities.
  • Excellence on obtaining the university degree/s (the average grades must be A or B, minimum 70%).
  • English language proficiency proved by official TOEFL (institutional tests are not accepted) with at least 230 points (computer-based test) / 575 points (paper-based test) / 88 points (internet-based test), IELTS Academic at grade minimum 6.5 or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) with minimum level C.

Opportunity Cost

(Fully Funded)

The scholarship includes the student’s participation costs (i.e. tuition fees, full insurance coverage and any other mandatory costs related to the student’s participation in the course), a contribution to student travel and installation costs and a subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme.

Contribution to the participation costs:

Up to 14,000 € for Partner Country scholarship holders and up to 7,500 € for Programme Country scholarship holders, which are paid by the European Commission to the EMTM coordinating institution.

Contribution to travel and installation costs:

  • 1,000 € per year for travel costs for scholarship holders residents of a Programme Country.
  • 2,000 € per year for travel costs + 1,000 € for installation costs for scholarship holders residents of a Partner Country whose location is situated at less than 4,000 km from the EMJMD coordinating HEI.
  • 3,000 € per year for travel costs + 1,000 € for installation costs for scholarship holders residents of a Partner Country whose location is situated at 4,000 km or more from the EMJMD coordinating HEI.

Contribution to subsistence costs:

1,000 € per month for the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme (24 months maximum). Contribution to subsistence costs will not be given to the scholarship holders for the EMJMD (study /research /placement / thesis preparation) periods spent in their country of residence.

First Step: Prepare the following required documents:

1. Curriculum Vitae (Europass EU format)

2. Original university diploma scanned, also the certified English translation of the diploma

3. Original academic transcript , also the certified English translation of the transcript saved

4. A motivation letter

5. Proof of competence in English language

6. Two letters of recommendation scanned

7. Scanned copy of a valid passport

Second Step: Prepare a .zip or .rar file including all the above documents in the format name_surname.zip or name_surname.rar. Note that the file cannot exceed more than 10 MB.

Third Step: Apply online and upload the .zip or .rar file containing all the digital copies of the required documents

  • The application must be made online. Posted documents will not be sent back to applicants. Only selected students will be asked to send the hard copy of the documents listed above to the EMTM Secretariat address after the announcement of the selection results.
  • Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
