Farouk Hosny Award for Arts

The Farouk Hosny Foundation Award for Arts is an annual award to support artistic and cultural excellence.

The award is presented annually by the foundation’s Board of Trustees in the presence of prominent leaders of Egypt’s cultural scene and is covered by reputable media and PR outlets.

More Details

The Farouk Hosny Foundation Award for Arts is awarded to a contemporary emerging or established Egyptian artist as voted and selected by the Judging Committee based on creative input and artistic uniqueness and excellence.

Applications for the first round of the Farouk Hosny Foundation Prize for Art need to be submitted no later than the date mentioned above by registering and submitting the  data through the application form available on the Foundation’s website (http://apply.faroukhosnyfoundation.org) as of October 1, 2019.

The Award’s Committee and Judging Panel is independent and includes renowned cultural figures namely:

  • Dr. Alia Abd El Hadi
  • Dr. Hussein El Shaboury
  • Dr. Ashraf Reda
  • Artist Samir Fouad
  • Artist Ihab El Laban

Program Period

competition period since submission time is as following:

  • The application of the first round of the Farouk Hosny Foundation Award for Arts will open on October 1, 2019.
  • Applications will be accepted til November 1, 2019.
  • The finalists will be contacted on December 15, 2019
  •  upon which they will need to submit the original art work by December 25, 2019.
  • The winning art work and the finalists art works will be presented at a group art exhibition that will open on 21 January 2020.
  • the exhibition will run until 31 January 2020.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • The applicant must be an Egyptian national
  • The age of the applicant is between 18-35 years when applying
  • The artwork should be original and produced by the applicant and the applicant owns all its intellectual rights
  • The art work should be a painting only colors (acrylic – oil – multimedia)
  • The art work is produced within the last two years (maximum as of 2017)
  • No other prizes have been won or awarded for the nominated art work
  • The applicant may only participate with one art work only
  • Any dimension of the art work must not exceed 120 cm including the outer frame
  • The art work image uploaded in the application form should be of high quality, clear and suitable for review and publication
  • The image of the art work uploaded in the application form must be in JPEG or JPG format and should be of high quality and accuracy.
  • The image size should not be less than 5 MB and not more than 10 MB, provided that the longest dimension of the image is not less than 2000 pixels and the quality is not less than 300 dpi
  • All applications must be sent via the website application form. No other application methods will be considered
  • Agreeing to submitting the nominated art work for viewing and display in the group art exhibition if you are notified as a finalist as per the competition schedule and guidelines
  • Agreeing to apply the terms, rules and conditions of the competition

Opportunity Cost

  • The Farouk Hosny Foundation Award for Arts consists of a medal and a cash prize (EGP 50,000), as well as an art exhibition of the winning art work of the winner and the finalists. The finalists also receive certificates of appreciation.
