The Ryoichi Sasakawa Endowed Young Leaders Fellowships Fund (SYLFF) Program
The Ryoichi Sasakawa Endowed Young Leaders Fellowships Fund (SYLFF) Program was established in 1987. Since 1993, AUC has been one of 69 universities worldwide to provide these fellowships to promising graduate students in the following programs in their home institutions or abroad.

The Sylff Association is a network of 69 institutions in 44 countries and 16,000 current and graduated fellows along with the staff of the Nippon Foundation and the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research.

Two academic years and the intervening summer session, with a review every semester for satisfactory academic performance.

- For new graduate degree-seeking students; satisfy AUC graduate admissions requirements
- Full admission into one of AUC’s MA programs in the Humanities and Social Sciences
- Bachelor degree with a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent
- For continuing students; to retain the fellowship, the recipient must maintain a GPA of 3.2
- History of active participation in extracurricular activities and public service
- Both new and continuing graduate students may apply but preference is given to those who require four semesters to complete their degree
- Financial need
Notes:
- As a Sylff fellow, you are required to maintain the status of a full-time student with a minimum GPA of 3.2
- By accepting this externally funded fellowship, the fellowship recipient agrees to respond to any reporting requests received from AUC by the deadlines communicated to the awarded fellow. This may include a request for academic progress information to be used for reporting purposes, photos or, attendance of fellowship retreats and events, including any meetings/events with donors as requested by the relevant university entities
- Awarded fellows will be assigned a number of hours to work with the Office of Graduate Student Services and Fellowships
- Fellows are expected to apply for conference and thesis research grants, participate in internships, social service organizations, and regional and international conferences

- Tuition fees, for a maximum of nine credits per semester
- Student services and activities fees
- Medical service and health insurance fees (for international students)
- May cover conference or thesis research support grants for eligible fellows
- Fellows are expected to participate in various activities, including the annual Sasakawa Symposium
