Fine Arts Scholarship
Fine Arts Scholarships are available to select students who display exceptional talent in art and design, music, or theatre arts and who are seeking a fine arts degree.

The Fine Arts Honor Scholarship will be renewed annually for full time art majors in good academic standing (2.0 GPA up to 30 credits hours and 2.5 GPA thereafter).

- A student applying for the Fine Arts Honor Scholarship in Art must be a full-time student planning to be an Art History, Graphic Design or Studio Art major.
- Transfer students are encouraged to apply for the Art and Design Honors Scholarship the semester before their anticipated start at Drake.
- Recipients of these tuition scholarships are chosen based on a complete review of the application for admission.
- Awards are based on a variety of criteria depending on the type of scholarship and are not base on financial need.
- Students with previous bachelor’s degrees are not eligible.

The renewable International Student Grant may offer a partial award toward financial need. This grant, however, will not provide full funding; although it may be awarded along with other scholarships, the total combined aid will not exceed 40% of the total cost of attendance.

First Step: Please check the admission requirements first from here.
Second Step: Complete one of the following:
- Drake University Application.
- Common Application,including the Common Application Member Questions specific to Drake University.
Choose either method to apply. Both options are given equal consideration for admission. There is no application fee when applying online.
When you apply for admission, you will be asked whether or not you wish to follow the test-flexible path that requires an interview in lieu of submitting ACT or SAT scores. Students who are not eligible for the test-flexible path include:
- Pre-Pharmacy applicants.
- Pre-Athletic Training applicants.
- Pre-Occupational Therapy applicants.
- National Alumni Scholarship applicants.
- Home-schooled students.
- Incoming first-year students with a GPA below 3.0.

If you wish to improve your language proficiency before beginning an academic program at Drake, you may apply for admission to an academic program at the same time that you apply for the Intensive English Program. With the exception of the pre-pharmacy program, Drake offers conditional admission to those applicants who meet the University’s academic requirements, but first need to improve English language skills.

Fifth Step: Submit The required Documents. First-year students are required to complete an online application, submit transcripts, submit ACT or SAT scores (or complete a test-flexible interview if eligible), and submit a personal essay. A letter of recommendation is encouraged but not required. Each section below provides specific information for each required element of your application.

- Summary of Extracurricular Activities.
- Letters of Recommendation (is encouraged but not required).

Seventh Step: Fill in the form.
Note: All prospective students that have applied and been admitted by the priority deadline of March 1 are automatically considered for these awards.
- Applicants interested in Art History should attach a writing sample of no more than three pages that analyze a specific work of art or literature, a historical event or text, or other relevant topics. The writing sample should include references and citations.
- Applicants interested in Studio Art and/or Graphic Design should attach at least six and no more than eight images of your most current artwork. Images should be no larger than 1000 pixels in any direction and be less than 1 MB in size. Please save images at the highest resolution possible within these limits. Include title, medium, and date of work for each image.
- Please put one image per page with information into this Word document (a single page template included in this document) and “Save As” a single PDF file that is named in the following format: Lastname_firstname.pdf (.pdf extension will be automatically added)
- Free image editing software is available online and allows applicants to crop, rotate, resize, and do light editing work on images. This program works on both PC and Mac computers. Please do not use filters or effects on your portfolio images.
- Once you have compiled your portfolio, please send the single PDF file (which cannot exceed 10 MB total) to Dani Peters, Fine Arts Coordinator at [email protected].
