AIMS NEI Fellowship Program for Women in Climate Change Science
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) is pleased to invite female scientists to apply for the AIMS-NEI Fellowships for Women in Climate Change Science (WiCCS). Fellowships are awarded to outstanding women working on revealing the triggers of our changing climate, mapping past, current and future climate patterns, increasing our knowledge of the impacts of these climate patterns on humanity and life on earth, providing recommendations and solutions on how best to adapt, mitigate or increase our resilience to climate change and its associated impacts, etc.

- Applicants must be female.
- Must have a doctorate before fellowship start date in a quantitative discipline, including but not limited to applied mathematics, climatology, physics, computational chemistry, statistical ecology, computer science, theoretical biology, and engineering.
- Currently employed, on either a permanent or a temporary basis, in a non-profit work environment, including government.
- Actively engaged in research, policy, and/or practice relevant to climate change modelling, mitigation, adaptation, and/or resilience among others.
- The lead and/or senior author of at least one refereed publication on a topic relevant to climate change modelling, the causative factors of climate change, climate change mitigation, adaptation, and/or resilience etc.
-
The country depends on the institution chosen:
- Home institution (refers to an applicant’s current work environment, must be non-profit and may include universities, independent research institutions, non-governmental organizations, and governments, among others).
- Host institution (refers to the work environment where an applicant proposes to execute her project, must be non-profit and located in Africa).

First Step: Before starting the application process, ensure that all your supporting documents are ready to be uploaded in PDF format, these documents are:
- a completed personal details form, including a detailed budget for all non-project-related activities.
- a completed project proposal form, including a detailed budget for all project-related activities.
- CV.
- An electronic copy of a representative publication in climate change modelling, its causes, climate change mitigation, adaptation and/or resilience in which the applicant is the lead and/or senior author.
Note: Supporting documents should be saved as a pdf in the format: “name of the research program_type of_document_ AIMSentity/centre_monthyear of applying_first and last name of applicant.” For instance, “MS4CR fellowship_application form_AIMS-NEI_Apr2020_SarahJake”.
Second Step: Go on the application form, choose the AIMS NEI Fellowship Program for Women in Climate Change Science program, fill your personal information and provide the following information:
- Current home institution.
- Proposed host institution(s).
- Proposed overall budget required from AIMS (USD).
- Proposed research title.
- Proposed start date.
- Area of specialization/research expertise.
- Highest qualification/degree.
Third Step: Upload the PDF documents mentioned above, submit your application and request 3 letters of support to be emailed to [email protected] (using as subject “MS4CR fellowship application support letter
– first and last name of applicant”) by the application deadline.
Note:
- Two of these letters should come from the applicant’s immediate supervisor at her home institution and the named collaborator at her proposed host institution. At least one letter should come from an individual who is qualified to assess the applicant’s experience in climate change research, practice, and/or policy.
- ensure that your referees receive both the Terms of Reference for Fellows and the Instructions for Referees document, in addition to the email address to which the letters of support should be sent to.
- remind your referees to use the subject line: ‘researchprogram_supportletter_AIMSentity/centre_month/year_applicant’s name-surname’ e.g. ‘MSc_supportletter__AIMS Tanzania_Jun2018_JohnJake’.
