These prestigious PhD scholarships, awarded by the York Graduate Research School, offer full funding (covering 100% of tuition fees, a stipend commensurate with the UKRI rate, plus a research training support grant) for the duration of your enrolment period.

YGRS Overseas Research Scholarships:

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

You must:

  • Have applied for a place of study on a PhD programme at York by 31 January 2020.
  • Be liable to pay tuition fees at the international rate.
  • start your research studies in the 2020/21 academic year (between 1 October 2020 and 1 September 2021).
  • You must not hold a 100% tuition fee scholarship from elsewhere or be fully sponsored.
  • Distance learning students are eligible to apply, however if successful, would be awarded a full fee waiver only.

Applicants for the following pathways are not eligible to apply for the YGRS Overseas Research Scholarships:

  • Hull York Medical School.
  • International Pathway College.
  • Kaplan International College London.
  • Students applying for MPhil or MA by Research programmes.
  • English requirements:
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic).
  • or PTE Academic.
  • or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE).
  • or Cambridge Proficiency (CPE).
  • or TOEFL iBT (internet based)Trinity ISE.

  • You normally need to have received an offer before you apply for funding, so be sure you check the funding application deadlines. They usually fall between January and March.
  • UK government loans: if you are thinking about studying in 2019/20 you may be entitled to a loan of up to £25,000 to help fund your research degree.
