The University offers two interdisciplinary summer programmes:

  • The Ishibashi Summer Fellowship is an intensive three-week postgraduate level fellowship in Japanese Arts and Cultural Heritage.With the support of the Ishibashi Foundation, we offer full bursaries to all successful applicants.

  • The Japan Orientation module is an undergraduate level programme where you will gain an enhanced passion for the history of Japan, Japanese culture, and the future of Japan within our global society, and enjoy guest lectures, workshops and field trips to enhance class discussions.

  • Programme JAPAN ORIENTATION : from 29 June – 13 July 2019.
  • Programme ISHIBASHI SUMMER FELLOWSHIP: from 27 July – 17 August 2019.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • All applicants should be aged 18 or over.
  • All applicants are expected to have attained a 3.0 US GPA or equivalent.
  • All applicants should either be currently studying at University, or a recent graduate.
  • Non-native English speakers need an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or an equivalent score on an approved English test.
  • Applicants do not need to submit a reference.


  • Both programmes will be taught in English.
  • Teaching will be carried out in locations on and off UEA campus.
  • Learning will be assessed in a variety of ways including class presentations, assignments or discussions
