  • Anyone pursuing an academic program in geophysics is eligible for consideration for a scholarship. The committee recognizes that some universities do not have majors in geophysics. Students from such schools must show adequate commitment to a career in applied geophysics through coursework that includes geophysics, geology, physics, applied mathematics and/or computer science., as well as in their statements about career plans.* You will be enrolled as a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD student in 2020.

Please note if you plan to be enrolled in a master’s or PhD program in the 2020-2021 (Aug 2020 to July 2021) academic year. Please note that a student may only receive SEG scholarships for a total of 6 years during his/her academic career.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • a high school senior planning to attend college next year or an undergraduate or graduate college student
  • academic record shows you are an above average student.
  • intending to pursue a college curriculum directed toward a career in applied geophysics.
  • Required documents :
    1. official transcript of your academic work.
    2. Write an essay of 250 words.
    3. two Recommendations  who have agreed to support your application.

    note: you should have the requirements of the university you will choose.

Opportunity Cost

(Partially Funded)

  • Scholarships range from $500 to $10,000 USD per academic year; average awards are approximately $3,700. The number of scholarships available depends chiefly upon the number of sponsors and the amounts they contribute. SEG scholarships have been awarded to students all over the world.
  • Funds provided may be applied to tuition, books, and fees

Second Step: Submit your application online and Complete all required fields of the application form, in English.

NOTE: Mid-March through mid-May a committee of eight professional geophysicists independently review and rank each application. A consensus meeting is held in late May to discuss the applications and establish a final ranking. Top-ranked students are matched with available scholarships. Applicants are notified of results in mid-June.
