Established in 2015, this Scholarship is to provide assistance to undergraduate students studying history at the University of Sydney.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Undergraduate Equity Scholarships in History supports current and commencing undergraduate students studying a major in history at the faculty.

Up to three years.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Applicants must be either:
    – A recent School leaver that qualifies and subsequently enrols full-time in a Bachelor degree in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences majoring in History at the University of Sydney, or
    – A currently enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student in a Bachelor degree in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences majoring in History at the University of Sydney.
  •  Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they meet at least one of the below criteria:
    –  from a low socio-economic background.
    – live in a regional or rural area, or
    – identify as Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
    – academic merit,
    – a personal statement,
    – an interview.
  • The Scholarship will be awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or their nominated delegate(s) on the recommendation of a selection committee consisting of at least two members of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Undergraduate Committee.
  • To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester.
  • Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

Opportunity Cost

(Partially Funded)

  • The Scholarship is valued at $5,000 per annum.
  •  A successful commencing student will receive the Scholarship for up to three years for the normal full-time duration of the Bachelors degree.
  • A successful continuing student will receive the Scholarship for a duration of one year.
  • The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.
  • Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.
  • The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
  •  No other amount is payable.
