Journalist Fellowship – applications open by The Reuters Institute
The Reuters Institute, based at the University of Oxford, offers a limited number of Journalist Fellowships each year. The fully-funded Fellowships are aimed at practicing journalists from all over the world, to enable them to research a topic of their choice, related to their work and the broader media industry, before returning to newsrooms.

- The Fellowships offer an opportunity to network with a global group of journalists, spend time away from the daily pressure of deadlines, and examine the key issues facing the industry, with input from leading experts and practitioners. Fellowships last one, two or three terms.
- You will work with an experienced supervisor, usually an Oxford academic or senior practitioner, to produce a research paper which will be published and promoted by the Reuters Institute. You will also benefit from the extensive learning facilities offered by the University of Oxford, including the world-famous Bodleian Library, and access to various seminars and lectures across the university.

- Applicant must have a minimum of five years’ journalistic experience, or in rare cases demonstrate the equivalent level of expertise.
- Applicant should able to write at a publishable level of English.
- Applicant must provide Evidence of your English language proficiency.
– IELTS: overall score of 7.5 with at least 7.0 in each of the four components (Recommended).
– TOEFL : overall score 110 with a Minimum component scores:-
Listening: 22.
Reading: 24.
Speaking: 25.
Writing: 24.
– Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): score 191 minimum 185 per component.
– Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): score 191 minimum 185 per component.
– English Language GCSE: grade B or grade 6.
– English Language O-level: grade B.
– International Baccalaureate Standard Level (SL): score of 5 in English (as Language A or B).
– European Baccalaureate: score of 70% in English.

- Journalist Fellowships are fully-funded and cover living costs and accommodation.

First Step: Applicant must provide:
- A full curriculum vitae/resume
- A personal statement outlining:- i) your journalistic values, ii) the major trends in the media landscape in which you work, and iii) a summary of what you think you would contribute to the Fellowship programme (no more than 500 words in total).
- A statement of up to 1,000 words explaining your proposed research project.
- A reference from your employer, supporting your application and granting leave of absence – if you are a freelance journalist, we will accept a professional reference from a colleague or higher education tutor.
- A second professional reference (e.g. former employer).
- A sample of your work (please see specific requirements below).
- Evidence you have the required English language ability, if English is not your first language.
Applicant must provide this requirement if he print journalist :
- Three articles or reports (more than three will not be reviewed), including dates and names of the publications.
- A translation into English must accompany material published in other languages.
- Applicants in managerial or editorial positions for whom it would be difficult to send work samples should include a statement of up to 500 words describing their work.
Applicant must provide this requirement if he broadcast journalist:
- A link/URL to an example of your work via Vimeo or YouTube (maximum 10 minutes), plus a brief, written description of the material.
- A summary or transcription in English must accompany material in other languages.
- Applicants in managerial or editorial positions for whom it would be difficult to send work samples should include a statement of up to 500 words describing your work, including details of any major programmes for which you have been responsible.
