We are pleased to offer ten Vice-Chancellor’s scholarships for exceptional postgraduate taught students. These prestigious scholarships aim to reward and encourage exceptionally high-achieving students by offering a tuition fee discount.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

Criteria for University:

  • For postgraduate taught courses (MSc, MA, PG Dip, PG Cert, PGCE, Graduate Diploma and MRes) you would typically need at least the equivalent to a UK upper second class honours degree (2:1). However, some courses will accept lower second class honours degrees (2:2) combined with relevant professional experience and/or vocational qualifications. Actual requirements vary by course.
  • You  need to consider some additional factors. This could include providing evidence of your English language ability or finding out about visa requirements.
  • If English is not your first language, you may be asked to provide evidence of your English language ability to the required level, in addition to any academic entry requirements.
  • To ensure the qualifications you are studying or have studied are considered suitable for entry to York, please check the relevant country-specific information.

Criteria for Scholarship:

  • Eligible Students must be expected to achieve a 1st class undergraduate degree (or international equivalents).
  • Eligible Students must have a conditional or unconditional offer to study at the University of York by the 30 April 2019 (you do not need to have accepted the offer).
  • Eligible Students must be paying fees at the overseas fee rate (any fee assessments must be complete by the 30 April 2019).
  • Eligible Students must be intending on studying a full-time postgraduate taught course based on the University of York campus.
  • Eligible Students must have already met the English Language requirements of their offer (by 30 April 2019).

Opportunity Cost

(Partially Funded)

  • Five postgraduate scholarships offering a £5,000 tuition fee discount for each year of study, one years.

Note: Applicants cannot hold a 100% tuition fee scholarship or be fully sponsored.

How to Apply

First Step:

  • Apply for the university:
  1. Choose your course.
  2. Check the entry requirements.
  3. Submit an online application. You don’t need to complete your application all at once: you can start it, save it and finish it later.
  • You will need to upload the following documents when you apply:
  1. Academic transcript.
  2. Copy of a language certificate.
  3. Personal statement (Your personal statement should be between 500 and 1,000 words. It must be in English, and be your own work.) To help you to prepare before you apply, you can find out about course-specific requirements here. The course pages will also give you some ideas about what to include in your statement.
  4. Your CV (curriculum vitae).
