The Master’s programme in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis responds to the increasing need to better understand the socio-economic and environmental effects of public policies targeted to the global agricultural and food sector and the rural environment. It provides you with high quality education in designing and assessing these policies and prepares you for a professional, international and world-changing career within the field.

The Master’s programme in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis (AFEPA) aims at providing a high quality education in designing and assessing public policies targeted to the agricultural and food sector as well as the rural environment to excellent students from all over the world.

The AFEPA progamme is jointly organised by four European main partner universities:

  • The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) in Milano, Italy.
  • The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Sweden.
  • The Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms Universität Bonn (UBonn) in Germany.
  • The Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Belgium.
  • The partnership also includes three associated partners:
  • The Pontifica Universidad Catolica (PUC) in Chile.
  • The University of Alberta (UAlberta) in Canada and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain.

These seven partner universities are recognised worldwide for the quality of their educational programme and scientific achievements.

Third area: Geography, earth and environmental studies

Program Period

 2 years program.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent academic degree of minimum three years of undergraduate study corresponding to 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits with a grade of at least an average “B” grade or equivalent grade. Students in their final year of their Bachelor’s degree may be provisionally admitted in the AFEPA Master’s programme on the condition that their Bachelor’s degree is awarded before they enrol the programme.
  • minimum of 24 (ECTS) in economics – including management, mathematics, and statistics. An additional introduction to agricultural, environmental or food sciences is recommended.
  • An English proficiency test results (not older than two years):

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 90 on the Internet-based Test (IBT), with a minimum of 20 on the written part. International English Language Testing System (IELTS): an overall band IELTS score of at least 6.5, and no section below 5.5.

A test deemed equivalent by the AFEPA Management Board (if you want to submit test results other than from the TOEFL or IELTS tests please obtain our confirmation of that particular test prior to sending your application package

  • The AFEPA promoter receives:
  • Contribution to travel costs per year: 2000€-3000€
  • Contribution to installation costs per year: 1000€
  • Contribution to subsistence costs per year: 12000€
