Erasmus Mundus- Cartography Master programme

Cartography MSc is a four-semester Master of Science Programme of four universities in Munich, Vienna, Dresden and Twente. It focusses on a broad education in cartography and geoinformatics.

Applications are invited for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships to pursue International Master Programme in Cartography. The Cartography MSc has been selected for Erasmus+ by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Union.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

You are eligible to be admitted to the Cartography programme, if you have:

  1. Already obtained an university Bachelor degree or equivalent in a discipline related to cartography, geo-information, geography, geodesy, geology or computer science.
  2. Motivation and talent;
  3. Academic qualification and academic potential (knowledge in cartography, computer science, mathematics, geodesy, other geo, natural and environmental sciences);
  4. Study progress and results obtained in previous education (e.g. based on GPA);
  5. Practical experience in the geo field will be an advantage.
  6. English language proficiency:
  • IELTS Academic Module: Minimum score 6.5
  • TOEFL iBT: 88, CbT: 234, PbT: 605, TOEFL ITP is not accepted.
  • Cambridge Certificates Cambridge Main Suite: CAE or CPE: level A, B or C
You are considered to be proficient in English and you do not need to provide an English language test score if:
  • You are a native English speaker;
  • Your previous (current) university education has been conducted in English. In this case you need an official certificate from your university confirming that the language of tuition was English.

Scholarships for the four-semester Cartography M.Sc. programme are:

  • Contribution to travel costs of 2 x 3.000 € (6.000 € in total) per scholarship holder traveling more than 4.000 km OR 2 x 2.000 € (4.000 € in total) per scholarship holder traveling less than 4.000 km plus 1000 € in total for installation costs
  • Subsistence costs of 1.000 € per month, 24.000 € in total. Contribution to subsistence costs must NOT be given to scholarship holders for the study periods (study /research /placement /thesis preparation) spent in their country of residence.
  • Contribution to participation costs of ca. 2.425 € per semester, maximum 9.700 € in total.
  • Insurance package, i.e., health insurance.
  • The scholarship is a full scholarship, meant to cover all costs (e.g., tuition fees, traveling, visa costs, accommodation, living expenses, etc.). There will be no further funding.

How to Apply

First Step: Start the TUMonline application system. Choose English as your default language

Second Step: Attach the following documents:

  • English language certificate (certified copy)
  • Complete and current résumé (CV)
  • Letter of motivation
  • Subject and grade transcript of studies to date (certified copy)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Preliminary Documentation / VPD certificate (only for applicants with diploma obtained from countries outside of EU/EEA or Switzerland) processed by uni-assist. More information on uni-assist at 
  • For applicants who have already studied in Germany for minimum one semester (e.g. Erasmus exchange students)
    • Enrolment certification of university last attended
    • Study process certificate
Third Step: Make sure on the application preview that you entered all the data correctly. Please note, after clicking “Send” no corrections of your details are possible!
Fourth Step: Send the signed TUMonline form together with all required documents for admission by regular or registered mail (per post) before the application deadline to:

Fifth Step: Convert all required documents for admission into pdf-files and e-mail it to
Please use the following e-mail header when submitting the documents: “Application_FAMILY NAME_First name“.
Sometimes, referees providing the recommendation letter in a sealed envelope or sending it directly to TUM. In this case, the organization will accept your PDF documents without the recommendation letters.

ٍSixth step: If the organization received your complete application before 15/3/2019, you will automatically be considered as a scholarship candidate. No further steps are required while applying for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
