BU Music scholarships

BU Music scholarships are available to talented musicians. To apply for one of these awards, you must be able to demonstrate that you are a talented musician or vocalist and that you have been involved in ensemble activity.

Important Note:

  • Scholarship is awarded in your first year only, so the duration of scholarship is one year unless stated otherwise and may be continued for subsequent years of study providing you continue to meet the criteria.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Any UK, EU or international applicant applying for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course at BU
  • You must be able to demonstrate that you are a talented musician or vocalist, and that you have been involved in ensemble activity
  • Be liable to pay fees at the UK/EU rate.
  • Have received and accepted an offer of a place on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course delivered at Bournemouth University.
  • You’ll need to have reached Grade 8 of the Associated Board, Trinity or LCM, or equivalent, in your main instrument or voice.
  • You need to show you have an academic grounding in music, and have passed A-level (C or above) in the subject or have obtained Grade 8 theory. In exceptional circumstances, and depending on the availability of funds, we may consider applications from those with ABRSM/Trinity Grade 6 or above.

Opportunity Cost

£600 per year for September 2020 and January 2021 entry. The scholarship will cover the following:

  • fees tuition
  • other benefits, such as examination fees and assistance with buying music.

  1. You will need to obtain a reference from your Director of Music, music teacher, instrumental/vocal coach, ensemble conductor etc or any other person qualified to write about your musical abilities and online reference form here. Please note that under the Data Protection Act, a student would have the right to obtain a copy of the reference you supplied to the university.
  2. Draft your personal statement.

Third Step: Submit the online application here.

  • Note: You must complete the online application in one sitting, and will not be able to return to make amendments. so, you should submit your reference statements, personal statements and application in one sitting.
