Newton International Fellowships by the the Royal Society
Is a scheme jointly run by the British Academy, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society for non-UK scientists who are at an early stage of their research career and wish to conduct research in the UK.

The Newton International Fellowships aims to attract the most promising early career postdoctoral researchers from overseas in the fields of natural sciences, physical sciences, medical sciences, social sciences and the humanities, enable them to work at a UK institution with the aim of fostering long-term international collaborations.
Research must be within the Royal Society’s remit of natural sciences, which includes but is not limited to biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics.

Two years.
Fellowships are expected to commence by 31 March 2021 but not before 01 October 2020, preferably on the
first of the month. Fellowships will be for held for two years, on a full-time basis.

You must:
- have a PhD, or will have a PhD by the time the funding starts.
- have no more than 7 years of active full time postdoctoral experience at the time of application (discounting career breaks, but including teaching experience and/or time spent in industry).
- be working outside the UK.
- not hold UK citizenship.
- be competent in oral and written English.
- have a clearly defined and mutually-beneficial research proposal agreed with a UK host scientist.

The Newton International Fellowships provide funding for two years, covering:
- subsistence, at a fixed rate of £24,000 per annul.
- research expenses.
- relocation expenses.
- contribution to overheads at UK Host Organisation.
Successful applicants may also be eligible to receive annual funding following completion of their fellowship to support networking activities with UK-based researchers.
