Photographic contest “Caminos de Hierro”

The photographic “Caminos de Hierro” competition, celebrates its 30th edition, and it continues inspiring all train lovers and photographers. The contest has become one of the most prestigious contests, being highly appreciated by professional and amateur photographers, as evidenced by the constant increase in the participation. In the last edition, about 1,600 authors have participated with 3.697 photographs.

The rules of the contest contain the required ingredients to promote the interest in the photographic community, both in Spain and abroad. Another important element that is highly appreciated by the participants is the traveling exhibition with original photos in the main railway stations in Spain. This exhibition has become an important cultural event in Stations and an experience for all travelers and visitors. Moreover, a catalogue of the exhibition is printed including all the photos.

Program Period

 The prizes decision of the contest will take place in April 2020.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Contestants aged 25 (in 2019) or younger may compete for the Young Photographer’s Prize.
  • Each entrant may submit a maximum of three individual photographs or one photographic series related to the world of the railway. The photographs must be unpublished and submitted by the author.
  • Entries must be submitted by 21st January 2020 in digital format (jpg · maximum 1.5 MB).
  • Photographic series must comprise three, four or five photographs all included in one single file.
  • There will be a maximum preselection of 150 photographs (including singles and photographic series) that can take part of exhibitions in digital format.
  • These preselected photos must be submitted in paper in order to have the option to be selected and awarded. Individual photographs may be printed on paper measuring a minimum size of 24×30 cm and a maximum size of 40×60 cm. For the photographic series, the maximum size is 90 x 45 cm (horizontal or vertical).
  • The final selection will include 70 photos, to be published in a catalogue and to be exhibited in spaces defined by the Foundation.

  • Second Prize: 2,000€ ·
  • Young Photographer’s Prize: 1,200€ ·
  • Four Accessits: 300€ each Contestants aged 25 (in 2019) or younger may compete for the Young Photographer’s Prize.

Note:

Each author may only receive one single prize, although several of his/her works may be selected. No prize shall be declared void. All prizes shall be subject to the deductions provided for in the current tax legislation.
