A COMPETITION FOR SYRIAN ENTREPRENEURS_Startup Roadshow

Taking on a tour in search of the top Syrian-led startups across the Middle East, the roadshow is calling on Syrian students, young professionals, and entrepreneurs with business ideas to transform them into startups ready to take on the world.

They are looking for the relentless spirits, the inventive minds, and the transformers who turn problems into challenges and take on the entrepreneurial journey with unquenchable thirst.
We are looking for those who question the word impossible and believe their dreams are stronger than the odds. Are you one of them?

Launched for the first time in 2018, the Startup Roadshow is a competition for Syrian entrepreneurs based in the Middle East, organized by Jusoor Syria in collaboration with SPARK.

This year, the Roadshow will kick off on September 7th, and will stop over the cities of Beirut, Amman, Erbil, İstanbul, Gaziantep, to train 100 teams of audacious entrepreneurs in a 5-day bootcamp, followed by a Final Demo Day and pitching competition in Amman, where the region’s top Syrian startups will be crowned and later showcase their businesses in Amsterdam, during Spark Ignite conference on Nov 24th.

 Training Course Content:

  •  Entrepreneurship 101 & Business Modeling:Learning and exploring the entrepreneurship and the startup world, as well as helping the team turn their ideas into businesses.
  • Customer Development and Validation:Learning how to make the most of the customers and getting to the bottom of what they need from the startup stage.
  • Marketing sizing:Exploring and identifying your market share and the competition segments that can help you understand your product’s unique value.
  • Financial planning: Cost, Revenues & Growth:Understanding a startup’s financial model, and building future projections, revenue expectations, and expenses.
  • Pitch Deck & Pitching:Best practice tips on how to ensure the presentation and pitching skills communicate effectively and clearly, and that they connect with your customers.

Program Period

5 days.

  • 5-day training camp in each of the five cities.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • If your team has at least one Syrian refugee founder and you have developed an innovative solution to an existing problem, apply as both idea stage and early stage.
  • Do you have an idea but no team? they’ve partnered with Techstars Startup Weekend for the most exciting weekend you’ll ever experience! In 54 hours, you will experience the roller-coaster experience of creating a startup with peers that – just like you are figuring out their way to get started. More info about the opportunity .
  • Startup teams must have at least one Syrian entrepreneur (ownership agreement might be requested).
  • Participants must obtain legal residency in the countries where they join the training camp. (Residency must be issued at an appointment prior to training).
  • Every startup joining the program must attend the whole training program. Missing 2 days of training could disqualify your team for Demo Day.
  • All teams must be well completed; no solo entrepreneurs will be admitted.
  • The project has to be innovative in its field and present a novel solution to an existing problem.
  • The project has to be scalable and the team should be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of their revenue and profit model.
  • Applications can be in any industry with a focus on social and economic development impact, providing a solution to a problem.

Opportunity Cost

  • During the bootcamp week, the Startup Roadshow will be supporting teams living in different cities within the same country, covering transportation costs. However, no accommodation can be offered.

The Roadshow will hold the semi-finals in each of the 5 cities, where 2 finalists from each location will be crowned. At the end of the tour, the 2 finalists from each location will head off to Amman for a Demo Day, where the 3 winners will be selected. But there’s more! Other than the prizes, the lucky winners will take off to Amsterdam, to showcase their startups at the SPARK Ignite Conference.

  • First prize: $ 15,000.00.
  • Second prize: $ 10,000.00.
  • Third prize: $ 7,000.00.
