The School’s postgraduate community is the UK’s largest and most diverse of its kind, offering excellent support within a high-quality research environment. We are offering the following for students registering for a research (PhD) degree in 2019-2020

The School offers a number of Ph.D. Studentships. These awards cover Home/EU/International tuition fees and provide a maintenance stipend equivalent to that of the Research Council UK studentships. They are open to all new PhD students of all nationalities and research areas within the School.

Studentships are available for 3 year full-time programmes. Part-time studentships are also available.

Remember, we look at all of the information that you submit in your UCAS application. This includes your personal statement, academic reference, and previous educational achievement. Because of this, the requirements listed below may vary depending on your individual circumstances.
- Applicants must hold or expect to achieve a Masters-level qualification, which we would expect to be at distinction level, or equivalent, and have a first-class Honours degree (or non-UK equivalent).
- IELTS 7.0 overall, with no lower than 7.0 in writing OR a TOEFL score of 600 paper-based test OR 100 internet-based test.

- Two academic references.
- A copy of your passport (if you will need a visa to study here).
- MPhil students are not eligible to apply for this studentship.
- Current Ph.D. students are not eligible to apply for this studentship.

The Ph.D. Studentship award is open to Home/EU and International applicants and comprises two elements:
- The payment of fees.
- An annual maintenance stipend equivalent to that of the Research Councils (£14,777 for 2018 -19), which is paid in monthly installmentsby bank transfer into a UK bank account (by arrangement with the Student Services Centre).

First step: Apply for studying in the UK from UCAS.
Second Step: Applications for all PhD programmes must be submitted (with all the required supporting documentation) using the online application form on the University’s website.
Third Step:The PhD Funding Application Form must be downloaded and submitted to the Graduate School Office.
fourth Step: Return the PhD Funding Application Form, by email, to Mrs. Jo Marsh at the following address: [email protected] by the deadline of Friday 8 February 2019.
