Postdoctoral studies in translational immunology (scholarship)

The applicant will conduct a project on the inflammatory processes active during arthritis.  He/she is expected to work translationally, methodologies will include both molecular and cellular immunology techniques as well as cellular systems, in vivo models of arthritis and analysis of clinical samples by microarray approach.

The applicant is expected to conduct high quality research in a collaborative manner. He/she will be responsible for the planning of the project as well as data acquisition, preparation and analysis, manuscript writing and other activities for disseminating the results. Work is also to seek external research funding from external funding agencies.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • The candidate must have a proven experience and knowledge in experimental models of chronic inflammatory diseases, preferentially experimental arthritis.
  • The candidate should ideally have broad knowledge of science, and experience in the fields of immunology, and/or molecular and cellular biology.
  • Additional experience with the following technologies should be considered a plus: experience with human samples and biobanks, microarrays, bioinformatics, and functional immune assays.
  • English language skills at a high level are required together with good cooperation and communication skills.
  • The applicant must be organized, thorough, proactive and a talented problem solver.
  • Scholarships for carrying out postdoctoral research may be granted to persons living in other countries who come to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI.
  • Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships from KI.
  • Qualified to be admitted as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish PhD or higher.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. This educational scholarship is tax-exempt.
The amount is set for twelve months at a time and is paid out on a monthly basis.
