Sasakawa Japanese Studies Postgraduate Studentship 2019-20 – School of Arts, Languages and Culture, Manchester University

The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation is pleased to announce the Fifth Year of the Sasakawa Japanese Studies Postgraduate Studentship Programme, designed to support the development of Japanese Studies in the UK. Launched and administered by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and fully funded by The Nippon Foundation, the Programme is providing up to 30 postgraduate studentships annually, each worth £10,000, over the academic years 2014 – 2019.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • This award is available to existing postgraduate students.
  • Current students who have already accepted an offer of a full scholarship for September 2019 entry are ineligible to apply.
  • Applications will be ranked according to two key criteria: academic track-record, and the quality of the research proposal.
  • Continuation of the award is subject to satisfactory progress.
  • This funding is available to students undertaking study in:
  • Japanese Studies
  • Full-time
  • Postgraduate research

Opportunity Cost

(Partially Funded)

  • The studentships are worth £10,000 and are for 1 year only.
  • Living allowance (studentship paid directly to the student).

How to Apply

Doctoral Porgramme Application:

First Step: Before you apply, you must identify a potential supervisor for your PhD research, and contact them.

Second Step: Complete the application form and upload the following documents.

  • Two academic references.
  • Photocopies of degree certificates if the degree has already been awarded and official transcripts of previous and current study.
  • Research proposal.
  • A copy of your passport (if you will need a visa to study here).
  • Evidence of English language ability

Third Step: If selected you will be called for an interview.
