DATA MINING CUP, International student competition.

The DATA MINING CUP (DMC for short) has inspired students around the world to pursue intelligent data analysis since the year 2000. In the 20th DATA MINING CUP in 2019 about 150 teams from 114 universities in 28 countries took part in the competition. The best teams will be invited to Berlin for the awards ceremony at the retail intelligence summit.

In spring 2020 the 21st DATA MINING CUP will take place. Again, they want to enthuse domestic and international students for intelligent data analysis and challenge them to find the best solution to a data mining problem in competition with others.

The AG DATA MINING CUP competition aims to enthuse students from universities at home and abroad for intelligent data analysis (Data Mining) and to challenge them to find the best solution for a data mining problem in competition with others. The focus is on a practical task that was written with partners.

Note: Award ceremony will be 15 July after the deadline.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Domestic and international students are entitled to take part in the DMC competition in teams.
  • A maximum of two teams are permitted from each educational institution (university, technical university, vocational university etc.). There is no restriction on the size of the team.
  • Each person who registers a team automatically becomes the team leader. Each team leader must be a student enrolled at an educational institution at the time of the competition
  • All team members must be registered as students at the educational institution where they start the team at the time of the competition

Opportunity Cost


As part of the competition prudes AG will provide the following prizes:

Task 1:

  • 1st place: EUR 2,000.00
  • 2nd place: EUR 1,000.00
  • 3rd place: EUR 500.00

Task 2 (if existing):

  • non-cash prize for the first team

How to Apply

First Step: Register for the competition before 29 June using the online form here

Second Step: Directly after your registration you will get an e-mail.

Third Step: Within 3 days you will receive an e-mail when your team has been approved with your team name or a notice why your team has not been approved.

Note: Make sure you are a student at an educational institution and you have Institutional e-mail address.
