The Open Doors Academic Competition (Olympiad)

The Open Doors Academic Competition (Olympiad) is an international project that grants you an opportunity to enroll in a tuition-free Master’s programme at one of the leading universities in Russia; choosing any of 500 Russian universities, including 21 leading universities-participants of the 5-100 Project.

It is the third year the Russian Federation has organized the Open Doors International Olympiad. Winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad can choose any field of study from one of the subject areas of the Olympiad and one or several universities in Russia running the Master’s program of their choice.

Required Languages

English or Russian.

  • Master’s programs to choose from, are offered in two official languages of the Olympiad – in Russian and English.
  • After confirming your proficiency in English or Russian, you can study in that language. If you need to improve your Russian, you will be offered a Russian language preparatory course.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

Participation is open to graduates with a Bachelor or a Specialist degree from any university in the world (except Russian Federation).

Opportunity Cost

  • The competition winners and prize-winners of the Open Doors are granted a free early admission at any Russian university, without entrance examinations.
  • Your tuition fee will be paid by the Russian Federation.
  • You will have to cover your travel and accommodation costs, insurance and personal expenses.

How to Apply

The Olympiad includes 2 rounds that are held online. The first qualifying round is a portfolio competition. Those who have been successfully selected after the evaluation of the portfolios are invited to take part in the final round of the Olympiad which is a problem-solving challenge.

First Step: Sign up here to register your account.

Second Step: Provide the personal login and password (which corresponds with your email address).

Third Step: Prepare your portfolio. All research papers, certificates, awards and honors that you have ever received are of value.

  • You will not be able to edit your portfolio after the deadline.
  • All supporting documents must be submitted in Russian or English or translated in one of the official languages of the Olympiad.

Fourth Step: Winners of the portfolio competition are welcome to participate in the final round in the selected subject area.
