H.E. Dr Issa Ghanim Jassim Al-Kawari Scholarship is available for UK/EU and Overseas students to enable them to undertake a range of full-time Taught Masters programmes at SOAS, focusing on the study of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Founded in 1916, SOAS is located in the heart of Bloomsbury in central London. It is the leading Higher Education institution in Europe specializing in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East.

-Languages, Cultures and Linguistics:

  • MA  Arabic Literature.
  • MA Islamic Studies with a focus on the GCC region.
  • MA Near and Middle Eastern Studies with a focus on the GCC region.

-School of Arts:

  • MA History of Art and Architecture of the Islamic Middle East with a focus on the art of the GCC region.

-School of History, Religions and Philosophies:

  • MA Islamic Intellectual History (previously MA Islamic Societies and Culture) with a focus on the GCC region.

-Department of Politics and International Studies:

  • MSc Middle East Politics with a focus on the politics of the GCC region.

Program Period

One year.

Studying taught-master in SOAS usually takes 1 year.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • Applicants must possess a First Class Honours degree, from a UK institution or overseas equivalent.
  • Applicants must have provided evidence in their scholarship statement of:
  1. Their motivation and commitment to their chosen programme;
  2. Their leadership potential and demonstrated engagement in their community and the world beyond;
  3. Why they would be unable to fund their studies without this scholarship
  • Applicants must have an offer of admission to pursue one of the eligible full-time programmes at SOAS by the scholarship application deadline.
  • Applicants must meet the English language condition of their offer of admission to study at SOAS as soon as possible but no later than 1 June 2019. If your offer is conditional on English, please arrange your English test and ensure you meet the English requirements as soon as possible.
  • The scholarship cannot be held along with any other major scholarship or studentship.

Opportunity Cost

(Partially Funded)

  • The total value of the scholarship is £25,000.

Knowing that the taught masters fees in SOAS are ranging from 19000 to 21000 EUR for international students.

  • Transcripts, an explanation of the grading system for any degrees obtained outside of the UK.
  • Two references.
  • CV.
  • A personal statement.
