The  Master Course in Fire Safety Engineering is organized by the Universities of Ghent (Belgium,coordinator), Edinburgh (Scotland) and Lund (Sweden).The main objective of this two-year full time educational program is providing the required knowledge for a professional fire safety engineer in a Performance Based Design environment.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • A Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution (minimum 3 years full-time study or 180 ECTS credits) in one of the programmes mentioned above or a related discipline.
    • Note: Students in their last year of a Bachelor’s programme at the time of application will also be considered for admission. It is the applicant’s responsibility that the Bachelor degree is obtained prior to the start of the IMFSE programme.
  • Proficiency in the English language. Details
  • Applicants who have recently completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in one of the countries listed Here, do not need to prove their knowledge of English.

How to Apply

First Step: 

Know whether you are a Programme Country student or a partner country student from Here then register according to that and go to the application form.

Second Step:

Throughout the online application process, you will be asked to upload digital copies of the following documents. It is advised that you start well in advance to collect this documentation;

  • A passport photo
  • A copy of your passport.
  • Legalised copy of your Bachelor’s diploma (and Master’s, if applicable) in the original language. The country of origin determines whether documents have to be legalised by the Belgian embassy, by apostille certification, by APS certificate, or are exempt of official certification. Check this overview.

If no diploma has been obtained yet at the time of application, send a detailed Transcript of Records of the completed study years, as well as a signed statement from your university that the diploma is expected to be delivered prior to the start of the IMFSE programme. In addition, provide a legalised copy of your proof of registration or student card.

  • A certified English translation of your Bachelor’s and Master’s (if applicable) diploma, unless the document was issued in English.
  • legalised copy of your detailed Transcript of Records in the original language
  • A certified English translation of your Transcript of Records (unless the document was issued in English)
  • A copy of your English language test scores or language certificate (max. two years old). See also Language requirements
  • A motivation letter for the programme (1 A4-size page)
  • At least two recommendation letters.

Third Step:

As soon as all the information is duly filled in, submit the application form. You will receive a unique application number and an automatic e-mail. This e-mail will contain all further instructions for the submission of the hard copy documents to the IMFSE main office in Belgium.
