The IATA air cargo career competition

FACE-UP! gives recent graduates from around the world with the opportunity to present their thesis to industry executives at the 2020 World Cargo Symposium (WCS) in Istanbul, Turkey.

The IATA FACE Up Air Cargo Career Competition is an exclusively skill-based competition without any element of
chance. No purchase is required to enter or win the Competition

Their work must focus on innovation and transformation in air transport logistics (e.g., transportation, operations, mobility, revenue management, distribution, customer
experience, etc.). The entries received will be evaluated based upon the innovative, transforming, and visionary nature of the content, as well as the quality of the solution presented in the thesis.

An independent jury panel will choose the top three entrants. They will be invited to pitch their thesis idea in front of 1200 top-level industry professionals at the closing plenary of the WCS. Besides being a unique networking opportunity, attending the WCS will also provide a valuable chance to learn about the latest trends and developments in the air cargo industry.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • University graduate ( bachelor, masters, or Ph.D.), current or  within two years of graduation
  • Research focused on air transport logistics
  • Able to present in a dynamic and captivating way at the WCS Closing Plenary
  • Thesis preferably defended before December 2019
  • Entry is open only to individuals (Entrants) who submit an application during the Eligibility Period (between 09:00 am (UTC) on Sunday 1 September 2019 and to 06:00 pm (UTC) on Friday 17 January 2020) and who at the time of entry are eighteen (18) years of age or older and within 24 months of higher education completion.
  • Entrants may only enter the Competition individually (not as a team).
  • Entrants must have a valid passport (including expiry date delay for entry into Turkey and visa, if applicable) for travel to the Future Air Cargo Executive Summit 2020 (“FACES 2020”) and the 2020 World Cargo Symposium (“2020 WCS”) Istanbul, Turkey, which will take place from March 9 to 12, 2020. If an Entrant is shortlisted as a finalist, that Entrant may not present its proposal at the 2020 WCS unless such Entrant has a valid passport (and visa if applicable). It is the responsibility of each Entrant to ensure that he or she is able to travel to the location of the 2020 WCS for the final round presentation. Please note that from the date that the shortlisted finalists are announced, Entrants will have at least thirty (30) days to organize a passport/visa if required.

Opportunity Cost


The winner of the competition gets the following:

  • Entry pass to the Future Air Cargo Executive Summit (FACES) 2020 and the FACE Cocktail will be free for each individual entrant that is shortlisted as a finalist.
  • Entry pass to 2020 WCS will be free for each individual Entrant that is shortlisted as a finalist, including travel and accommodation.
  • Each shortlisted finalist will be given a 10-minute presentation slot at the 2020 WCS Closing Plenary to present their thesis.

How to Apply

First Step: make a 2-3 minute video about your educational background, the topic of the thesis, and your vision on how to modernize the air cargo industry, in English

Second Step: make an executive summary of the thesis in English (2-3 pages maximum) and their entire thesis in a zip file
