Required Languages


Trent is an English language university and it is important to your success at Trent that you are proficient in both spoken and written English. All students must demonstrate a command of English sufficient to meet the demands of classroom instruction, written assignments, and participation in tutorials and discussions.

Applicants whose first language is not English are normally required to submit proof of English proficiency meeting or exceeding the following test results:

  • TOEFL (86 IBT with a minimum writing score of 20 OR 580 PBT with a minimum TWE score of 4.5. Order your official TOEFL Score Report to be sent directly to Trent through ETS. Trent’s institutional code is 0896).
  • IELTS (6.5, with no band below 6.0).
  • CAEL (60).
  • C1 Advanced (Certificate of Advanced English) by Cambridge Assessment English (Grade of ‘C’)

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

– Awarded to entering international students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential, and some financial need.

– All students are required to have the following for admission to all programs:

(Partially Funded).

Scholarships and Awards partially fund tuition and ancillary fees at Trent in amounts between $2,000 and $24,000 per academic year (housing excluded).

How to Apply

First Step: Check Admission Requirements and Application Deadlines, all students are required to have the following for admission to all programs:

Second Step: Apply Online:

You are encouraged to apply to Trent as early as possible as some programs have limited enrollment. There are two ways to apply to Trent:

Apply directly to Trent (if Trent is the only university in Ontario you are applying to):

  • Create an account and apply directly to Trent (the email address you will use to create your account will be the email that we will use to communicate with you as an applicant).
  • Submit application fee ($90 CAD).

Apply through the OUAC (if you are applying to several universities in Ontario):

The OUAC website has many helpful resources such as Frequently Asked Questions, Video Tutorials and step-by-step guides.

– Personal Identification Number (P.I.N.)

  • If you are currently enrolled in an Ontario secondary school, guidance counsellors will provide you with a P.I.N. (personal identification number) to access the OUAC site and application process.
  • All other applicants will create user profiles on the OUAC site, which will then automatically assign a P.I.N

Third Step: Email “Safe Sender” List:

  • Once you apply, you will begin to receive emails from the International Admissions Office outlining next steps and other important information concerning your application.
  • Please ensure you add “” to your ‘Safe Senders’ list in your email.
  • You may want to check your Junk Mail if you feel you have missed a communication from Trent.

Fourth Step: Review Your Next Steps, Check the “Already Applied” page for your next steps.

Fifth Step: Fill and Complete “Application for Trent International Scholarships and Awards” form (Download form here Word or PDF).

Sixth Step: Attach the following documents along the form:

  • An essay in which you outline your academic aspirations and future career goals and how Trent University can help you in achieving these goals (maximum 1 page, up to 500 words).
  • A record of your most recent (last 2 years) extra-curricular activities, community service, and leadership (maximum 1 page).
  • An essay indicating how your service or leadership has been a meaningful part of your education and personal growth. The committee is most interested in specific examples of your accomplishments (maximum 1 page, up to 500 words).
  • An essay discussing a local, national or international issue and its personal importance to you (maximum 1 page; up to 500 words).
  • Two letters of reference, including at least one from teachers/former teachers. There is no special reference form, however, the letter must address the following points: the applicant’s academic work and intellectual qualities, involvement in extracurricular activities and community events, leadership skills and character.
  • Documentation of Income: Official statement of annual salary from parent(s) employer(s) on company letterhead OR most recent statement of income tax returns from parent(s).

Seventh Step: Submit all required scholarship essays and financial documentation as one file (pdf. or word). Reference letters may be sent separately. E-mail your scholarship file to the Trent International office at ( with your full name and Trent student number in the Subject Line.


  • These reference forms may be used. However, reference letters in other formats will be also accepted. (Reference form Word or PDF)
  • If you are applying for admission to Trent University only, submit a direct on-line admission application located on under Apply Now (Step 3). $90 CAD admission application fee is required. Trent University does not grant application fee waivers.
  • If you are applying to multiple universities in Ontario, you may wish to use an OUAC application located on (application fees will vary depending on a number of institutions you are applying to).
  • Submit one admission application only (direct or OUAC).
  • Only those students who have been admitted to undergraduate studies will be considered for scholarships/awards.
  • Scholarship/Award decisions will be communicated to qualified applicants by April 15, 2020.
