Vice-Chancellor’s International High Achievers Scholarships – Charles Darwin University

Program Period

For an undergraduate programme: Three to four years.

For a master’s programme: One to two years.

For a PhD programme: Three years.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

Eligible applicants must:

  • Submit a demonstrated record of academic excellence and high achievement in previous relevant studies and qualifications
  • Meet the University’s academic and English entry requirement:
    1. For undergraduates:
      • The minimum academic entry requirements for admissions to undergraduate degree is the completion of a qualification deemed equivalent to Australian Year 12 by the University’s qualification assessment references. To check for equivalency, click here.
      • Applicants may also be required to satisfy specific course requirements such as a minimum overall grade score or prerequisite knowledge.
    2. For postgraduates:
      • For coursework programs: The minimum academic requirements for admission to a postgraduate or graduate entry degree is the completion of a bachelor’s degree which is deemed equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree by the University’s qualification assessment references. Applicants may also be required to satisfy specific course requirements such as a minimum overall grade score, prerequisite knowledge or work experience.
    3. English Language Requirements:
      • If English isn’t your first language, you’ll need to provide a proof of proficiency usually in the form of a test.
      • While IELTS remains the  principal English language proficiency qualification, listed here are other qualifications which would satisfy the University’s minimum English language proficiency requirements.
      • All tests are valid for two years from the date of the test to the date of commencement at CDU, unless otherwise specified.
  • Hold an offer of admission to the degree at CDU for Semester 2, 2019
  • Not hold a scholarship from an Australian or foreign sponsoring agency
  • Submit a completed application for the scholarship by 01 May 2019 for commencement in Semester 2, 2019
  • Not hold a current Australian Citizenship, Australian Permanent Resident or New Zealand Citizenship

Conditions of the scholarship for awardees:

  • Awardees must commence studies in Semester 2, 2019
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress each semester in the degree at CDU, with minimum GPA of 5.3 and with no fail grade in any subject;
  • Maintain a full-time enrolment of 40 credit points each semester;
  • Pay the remaining balance of your tuition on or before the start of each semester; the tuition fee scholarship will be credited directly to your student account up to two weeks after census date each semester
  • The scholarship is neither transferrable for cash, nor refundable and cannot be transferred to another person, course or year
  • Not withdraw or  take a leave of absence  from the units or course of study, without prior approval of the Office of International Services;
  • Awardees must abide by the Student of the University By-laws (PDF 9KB)
  • Awardees must be paying international fees and not domestic fees
  • Awardees are required to inform the International Office via email international@cdu.edu.au of any visa status changes immediately as this may result in a termination of the scholarship

How to Apply

First Step: Apply for the University

  • Applications to CDU must be submitted online. The process is simple, all you need is a valid email address to create your online account. Once you have started the application you will have the option of saving your application and resuming it at a later date. There is no application fee when you apply online.
  • The online application process allows you to attach the relevant documents to your application. Once your application has been submitted you will receive a confirmation email with a reference number which will allow you to track the status of your application.
  • CDU has authorised representatives in many countries and you may use their services to assist you in the application process. Education agents are normally able to assist you with your visa application as well as your university application. Please be aware that some education agents may charge a fee. See the list of CDU authorised representatives.
  • A complete application includes the following documents:
    1. Completed application form
    2. Copy of passport showing personal and visa details
    3. Proof of English language proficiency
    4. Financial declaration
    5. Statement of Purpose (Single) or Statement of Purpose (Dual Family)
    6. Certified copies of all transcripts of results, award certificates, grading systems and English translations, if required
    7. Other supporting documents if applicable.
  • Last date to submit offshore applications: 24 June 2019.

Second Step: Apply for the scholarship

  • Please note: the VCIHAS scholarships are very competitive and meeting the minimum eligibility standards described above does not guarantee that you will be awarded a scholarship. All applicants who meet the minimum eligibility standards will be included in the selection process. The decision of the University selection panel is final.
