Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (LNMU) is one of the oldest and biggest medical educational institutions in Ukraine. It is one of the leading medical universities of the IV level of accreditation. LNMU begins from the Medical Faculty of Lviv University, which was opened on November 16, 1784, according to the privilege of the Austrian emperor Josef II. In 2009 University celebrated its 225 anniversary.

ABOUT THE CITY
Lviv is a city in Western Ukraine, the administrative center of the Lviv region, a cultural, educational, scientific, and tourist center of the country, a major industrial center and a transport hub.
The population of Lviv is about 728,000 (2016), the area – 192 sq. km.
Lviv is located in the central part of the Lviv region, about 600 km west of Kyiv and 70 km from the border with Poland. The climate in Lviv is moderately continental, humid. The average temperature in January is –30C, and in July it is +19.50C.
Lviv is one of the most important cultural centers in Ukraine. The city is known as the center of art, literature, music, and theater. More than 100 festivals are held annually. There are more than 50 museums and 10 theaters in Lviv. This city is also one of the most important centers of education in the country.
Lviv International Airport, located 6 km from the city center, offers flights to such cities as Vienna, Istanbul, Munich, Warsaw, Rome, Madrid, Kyiv. The slogan of Lviv is “Lviv – Open to the World”.
The bicycle infrastructure is actively developing. Today, the city has more than 70 km of bicycle paths. Lviv is famous for its cafes, pastry shops, and restaurants. Compared with other large cities of Ukraine, Lviv has a lower crime rate. Lviv has more than 20 parks and green areas, 2 botanical gardens, and 16 natural monuments.
Most cafes, restaurants, and hotels offer free Wi-Fi. It is also available in the main squares of the city, at the airport and the train station.

22 scientific schools actively function and develop in University: of obstetrics and gynecology, biochemical, hygienic, of infectious diseases, of history of medicine and pharmacy, microbiological, morphological, of neurology and neurosurgery, of oncology, of otorhynolaryngology, ophthalmological, of pathological anatomy and pathological physiology, pediatric, psychiatric, of dentistry, of internal diseases, pharmacological, physiological, of phtisiatry, of chemistry and pharmacy, of surgery.
Research
At 78 University departments, at the Institute of Clinical Pathology, in the Central Research Laboratory (CRL) and Laboratory of industrial toxicology are working 1211 scientists: 134 Doctor of Sciences and more than 620 PhD degree holders, including 113 full professors, 369 associate professors, 50 senior tutors, 662 assistant professors, 17 researchers. Among them there are 23 Members, 7 Corresponding Members of Academy of Sciences, 12 Honored Workers of Science and Technology,
7 Honored Workers of Education, 19 Honored Doctors, 1 Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sport,
8 Laureates of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology.

The range of countries from which foreign students come to study is truly wide: Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, USA, Canada, Great Britain, Cyprus, Israel, Ecuador, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Kenya, Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Angola, Tunisia, Iran, and many others.
Teaching Medicine, Dentistry and pharmacy for foreign students is carried out in two languages – Ukrainian and English. Foreign citizens who are not proficient enough in Ukrainian language can enter a one–year Preparatory course which includes an intense language program, as well as some basic training in Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
The University works closely with different organizations in Poland, Jordan, Egypt, India, Bulgaria, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia and other countries. The University scientists are working on joint scientific topics with leading scientific and educational institutions of Germany, Hungary, the USA, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Poland.
Housing services
The students‘ hostels are located near the main academic buildings. Students can live in 8 hostels which have everything needed for studying (internet clubs and reading rooms), everyday life (canteens, cafes, sewing and footwear workshops, barber‘s and laundry rooms), and more.
Library services
University library contains more than 530000 volumes of textbooks, manuals and other relevant medical literature. Library has modern computer equipment. She has Internet connection and is connected with other scientific city libraries.

Sports facilities
The Student Sports and Recreational Camp «Medik» was founded in 1972. The Camp is located in a beautiful pine forest on the shores of one of the most charming Shatskyi Lakes – Lake Pisochny. In summers, from June to August, everyone can restore one‘s health and have a great time.
Students and teachers of the University have the opportunity to relax in 16 wooden cottages of 4 rooms in each or in a three–story brick–built dormitory for 84 places with amenities in two– and triple rooms.
The camp has a whole range of sports grounds, where health–fitness and training sessions are provided by campers, as well as athletes–students of the national teams of the University are trained for various sports. All conditions for fans of mini-football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, chess, badminton, swimming, boating, walking on the lake on catamarans, fishermen, certain types of athletics, etc. are created here.
