Global Change Award 2019_H&M Foundation

H&M Foundation is looking for early stage innovation that present new circular approaches, free fashion industry, with the goal to reinvent the fashion industry. Five winners are selected each year and gets to share 1 million euro and embark on a one-year Innovation Accelerator Program in Sweden, Hong Kong, New York.

The challenge is initiated to accelerate the shift from a linear to a circular fashion industrywaste-free fashion industry. , to protect the planet and our living conditions. This means changing the way garments are currently designed and produced, shipped, bought, used and recycled by adding disruptive technology, processes, or new business models.

Program Period

  • Application: Aug. 28, 2019 – Oct. 16, 2019
  • Screening: Oct. 17, 2019 – Jan. 31, 2020. Applications are screened and five winners selected.
  • Award Ceremony: Apr. 1, 2020. The winners are revealed.
  • Innovation Accelerator: Apr. 2, 2020 – Apr. 2, 2021. The five winners embark on a one-year long Innovation Accelerator Program.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

1.The Challenge is open to;

  • Individuals or groups of two (2) to four (4) individuals from any country, eighteen years of age or older on the day of the submission of the Entry
  • all institutions and organizations (excluding solely commercial entities like corporations), domiciled in any country, and legally recognized as such in that country, in which all owners and/or leading persons are eighteen years of age or older on the day of the submission of the Entry.

2. The Challenge is not open to;

Foundation employees,

  • employees and consultants of the H&M group or any entities owned in full or in part by the H&M group,
  • employees and consultants of KTH Innovation, Accenture or such other project partners
    as announced by the Foundation,
  • members of the expert advisory board,

3. General Information

  • The Foundation reserves the right to exclude any Participant and any Entry from the Challenge at any time, for any reason, without prior notice and without compensation

Opportunity Cost


  • Five winners are selected and will share the grant of 1 million euro.
    • First place winner €300 000,
    • Second place winner €250 000,
    • Third place winner €150 000,
    • Third place winner €150 000,
    • Third place winner €150 000.
  • Access to the one year long tailor-made Innovation Accelerator Program, provided by H&M Foundation, Accenture and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. The accelerator includes immersion weeks in Stockholm, New York and Hong Kong.
  • Global recognition and validation.
