Vlisco Fashion Fund

The Vlisco Fashion Fund supports emerging designers and tailors in the process of establishing a career in fashion. They share knowledge, give access to an expanded network, and help emerging fashion talent with skill-strengthening and brand-development for their African fashion labels.

Selected applicants are invited for an interview and sewing test, after which 3 candidates are chosen as finalists per country category. Those finalists are given an assignment to complete, which is judged by an international panel of fashion professionals.

Program Period

3 Days for the event .

The interview of the shortlisted applicants will be between 8th to 18th October 2019.

The presentation of the design will be on 21st October 2019.

The announcement will be from 29th\, November  to 1st of Decemebr 2019.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

  • African fashion designers, 20-30 years of age, living in or outside Africa.
  • Applicants must be able to design and sew their own clothes.
  • Early stage start-ups in the fashion and tailoring industry, with no more than 5 years of work experience and no more than 2 employees.
  • In the event of winning the Vlisco Fashion Fund, Applicant shall be personally available to attend the relevant Vlisco Fashion Fund Winners event simultaneously held in the following cities: Cotonou, Lomé, Accra, Lagos, Kinshasa and Abidjan (the “Vlisco Fashion Fund Winners Event”)

Opportunity Cost


  • Vlisco Fashion Fund winners receive career funding of €5000 to invest in new equipment, to help finance the set-up of a studio, or to otherwise facilitate business growth.
  • The winning Applicant will attend the fully catered two-week learning experience in the Netherlands or, at the sole discretion of Vlisco, in any other country in April or May 2020, organised by the Central Marketing Team in the Netherlands
